Nature's Beauty

Last week when we were heading home we were just ahead of a storm and kept watching the sky as it grew darker. When we arrived at the house the rain had started and this was the view over our house. The photos give you an idea of the beauty of the moment but don't come close to actually being there looking up at it.







If only we could find the pot of gold at the end of one of the two rainbows we would be all set.

Birthday Recap

What a wonderful third birthday celebration spent with family and friends. The day for Cara started with preparations getting ready for the guests that were invited for the party. When we got to Cara's house she was ready to show us the decorations, gifts, and her beautiful castle cake that her mom made for this special day.

The cake was made by Emily. Cara was so excited that mom made the cake for her and thanked her for making it.

Taking a call from Italy, Aunt Cyndi is on the other end of the conversation sending birthday wishes.

The day after the party there was plenty to keep us all busy . . .

. . . we went swimming over at Cara's cousins, thanks guys!

After swimming we all went out to dinner, even Great grandma Abbott came along.

On Sunday Grandpa needed help putting together a scooter that Cara received as a birthday gift. She was more than happy to help him out.

With the scooter all together it was time for knee pads, elbow pads, a helmet then time to take things outside.

Cara wanted to also show us how she could ride her bike.

Next on our to do list was to play with the bubble soap.

Last but not least we could not pass up on the nice windy day so the kite was brought outside. Cara had the kite flying way over the house.

What a great time we had celebrating with the birthday girl. Thanks for the nice weekend all!

Happy Birthday Princess

Three years ago today our family was blessed with the birth of our first grandchild. Cara has brought so much happiness to us and when I try to find the words to say how much she has added to our family the tears of joy will stream down my face.


Grandchildren are such a wonderful gift of life. As a parent you have the responsibilities of all that goes with raising your child but being a grandparent you can set back and just enjoy all the time you spend together. The love is unconditional and endless.

A Nature Hike

Memorial Weekend Part II

Cara and I thought it would be the perfect day to take a nature hike and invite Grandpa to come along. Before we headed out on our hike I made two pairs of binoculars so nothing would be missed along the way.


Grandpa was trying out his pair of binoculars and Cara thought that was pretty funny . . .

It was now time to head out around the pond and we all were on the lookout for birds. We could hear them singing happily in the trees and we were curious to see if we could find them.

. . . after a nice walk it was time to head back to the house. The weather was warming up and it was about time to think about putting the pool up. Post to follow.

Yummmm Cupcakes

Celebrating the Memorial Day weekend we had a lot of things to do because Cara and her folks were up for a visit. One of the many things that we enjoyed was a cupcake party.



There is a certain art to eating a cupcake. Cara was so careful getting the tiny crumbly bite sizes of cake onto her fork. Eating with the hands, we all soon discovered, could be too messy.



We all thought we looked funny with our blue icing all over ourselves. Yes, even the two older ones had messy blue mouths.



With Cara's cupcake in pieces too small to go onto the fork it was time for Grandma to share hers with Cara.



Soon it was time to clean up but before the washrag came out Cara tried to get the last of the icing off of her face. Good to the very last. Later in the day we went on a nature hunt with our own binoculars . . . that will be my next post.
